Garfield & I went to see the #WAKASHIO ship that is trapped off the coast of south Mauritius. This Panamanian cargo tanker with strangely sounding Japanese name left China on July 4th with 3893 tons of Whale oil for Brazil. It then came too close to #Mauritius and got stuck on shallow shores and made an SOS to authorities who are are trying to see what to do. The personnel will be rescued and Covid19 protocol will be followed, especially they came from China. I spoke to a fisherman called Christian 'ti tom' Han Huang, himself half Chinese & half Indian origin like many Mauritians, and living in the area near Mahebourg who said if the oil tanker starts to spill fuel it will be a disaster upon a disaster, already the lockdowns have destroyed fishing, but now this the largest fishing coastal region and will be catastrophic if there is a leak! He said furthermore how does a ship from China on its way to Brazil get stuck in Mauritian shores? (if you take a map it doesnt even make sense) he said there is something that doesnt ring right about any of this. Almost as crazy as the ship, is the amount of people like me going all the way south to see it. 118 years ago the British ship #Dalblair got trapped very near that area during a cyclone and was coming to Mauritius but mistook the east coast for the west coast lighthouse. That was 118 years ago when technology and GPS was not developed, today's ships have high tech navigation equipment so whats up with that! Garfield is in Pointe D'Esny, Grand Port, Mauritius.
